Israel Rubinstein was born in 1944 in Petah Tiqwa, Israel.  Since his early childhood Israel’s father; who was a painter and a graphic artist, was aware of his son’s talent.  He sent the boy to various painting courses and introduced him to his artist friends; who helped the young Rubinstein arrange his first exhibition at Emmanuel Hall in his hometown Ramat Gan.

For three years Rubinstein studied at the Institute of Art in Tel-Aviv. There, he was enriched by the artistic experience which paved the foundation that further developed his future career.  In 1967, Rubinstein took part in a group exhibit of Israeli artists at the House of Z.O.A. (Zionist Organization of America) in Tel-Aviv.  Soon after; he left for a one-man exhibition in Louisville, Kentucky.

When Rubinstein returned to Israel, it was with new inspiration for a change in his thinking and style.  Rubinstein’s techniques started to evolve. Instead of thick layers, he began making transparent ones and created gentle and gradual shades. His style of art was particularly influenced by the well-known surrealistic movement in whose work he found similarities to his own. His spirited and playful imagination as well as his inborn sense of humor helped him incorporate these new ideas into his art. Not only was Rubinstein well versed in the surrealistic style, he also explored and developed a personal Cubistic style to express the relationship between the composition of color and music producing harmony in his work.
